Welcome to
Waka Eastern Bay

Waka Eastern Bay provides safe, affordable and accessible transport for people in our community who may not be able to drive themselves or who live outside the public transport network. We help people stay connected — whether that’s getting to medical and other appointments, visiting friends, doing the shopping, or simply getting out and about.

What began as a small trial in 2023 has now grown into a trusted, well‑known community transport service across the Eastern Bay. Our growth reflects both the need in our region and the incredible support of the community around us.

We are a registered charitable trust — the Eastern Bay Accessible Transport Charitable Trust — fully community‑owned and operated, and funded through grants, donations, and the goodwill of local people.

Our Mission & Vision

Our Mission

To help connect Eastern Bay communities and ensure they are inclusive, safe, and thriving.

Our Vision
A region where everyone has access to equitable, accessible travel options that support independence, wellbeing, and participation in community life.

Community Led, Community Supported

Waka Eastern Bay fulfils an important role by providing accessible transport options for people who live outside the public transport network or have limited travel choices.

We rely heavily on the goodwill of our community — from volunteer drivers to the trustees who help administer the organisation. Their commitment is what makes this service possible.

As a community‑owned charitable trust, we are funded through grants, donations, and the support of people who believe in the importance of accessible transport for all.

Our Philosophy

Empathy and Understanding

Every journey begins with empathy. We recognise that each passenger has their own story, needs, and pace — and we tailor our support so every person feels understood and cared for.

Elevating Dignity

Dignity sits at the heart of everything we do. We respect the choices, preferences, and independence of our passengers, ensuring they travel with confidence and autonomy.

Excellence in Care

We’re committed to delivering the highest standard of care. From our trained volunteer drivers to our safe, well‑maintained vehicles, we focus on quality in every trip we provide.

Celebrating Diversity

Our passengers come from all walks of life, and we embrace the richness of their experiences and cultural backgrounds. We’re proud to serve a community as diverse as the Eastern Bay itself.
